9-26-25 Troy’s complaint about the unfair job system shows his frustration with racial discrimination. How did this conversation make you think about fairness and opportunity in society today? If you were in Troy’s position, what would you do?

If I were in Troy's position, I would do the exact same things he did. He was trying to help his son get on the right path, and I believe that is the only right thing to do. Rose's role as a mother shows the stereotypical standards a mother must meet, and she plays the stabilizer in the family. Troy makes it clear to Correy he must be a man and prioritize his priorities always first.

9-22-25 Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

A time I was judged unfairly was when I brought up the idea of doing online school to my family. They all disagreed and didn't support it immediately. They said and believed I'm dropping out of school, which isn't true. I'm just getting my diploma in another manner.  No matter anything I said, my arguments and supporting reasons didn't budge them; they kept believing I was dropping out.

9-19-25 Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Something I would be curious about, Hispanic culture, if I knew nothing about it, is its origins. I would also like to know how long the practice of this culture has been in existence. Today in class, we took an assessment, not sure why. Today was a chill day glad it's Friday.

9-18-25 Absent

9-16-25 Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

My father would tell me stories about him and his childhood and how it was growing up in Mexico. He had to work as soon as he could to earn his own money for food and clothes. He never went to school.  His stories made me realize I must be grateful for the life I was given because many have it worse and would kill for my closet.

9-15-25 Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.

A time someone's words offended me was when a stranger told me to go back to Mexico. I reacted by telling them to shut the fuck up. My family told me to calm down and ignore them. The way I responded didn't help resolve the situation, and I learned I should've just ignored him.

9-12-25 It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?0

The thing I love most about being part of the Lakeside community is the opportunities it presents. Today in class, there were presentations. I didn't present today, but we will present more on Monday.

9-11-25 Consider Edna Pontellier’s decision to pursue love and desire beyond her marriage in The Awakening. To what extent do you think the pressures of gender role expectations excuse, or fail to excuse, her affair with another man?

Every person, regardless of their gender, is expected to be loyal to their partner. Her failure to do so in the story shows she is very much in the wrong. Any excuse is a failed excuse to excuse her actions for cheating on her husband with another man.

9-9-25 Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

The best learning method for me that I enjoy the most is hands-on work. Face-to-face work really grabs my attention and keeps me engaged. Being handed a packet of notes does nothing for me. Gaining experience is what really teaches people.

9-8-25 Reflect on a specific gender expectation imposed by your culture that has been the most challenging to navigate. In 2-3 sentences, describe one clear example of this expectation and explain why it has been difficult for you. Ensure your response is concise, vivid, and focused on personal experience

The most challenging gender expectation in my culture is being a man. It's hard to learn to become a man when your father isn't around much. He works; she isn't a run-down dad. I will learn it no matter what, although I am at a disadvantage.

9-5-25 You are working on your storymap which is reflection on your past. Thinking about your future, as you graduate high school, what role does the Atlanta metro area play in your life? Do you plan to stay or move away? Explain your reasoning.

I plan on staying in the metro Atlanta area. I plan to study in the Atlanta area after graduation. All of my family lives here, too, so I don't see a point in moving away, honestly. The story map is coming along and asks questions I would never think to ask myself.

9-4-25 Think about a moment when you challenged your parent(s)’ rules or expectations. How did you feel, and what was the outcome?

A time I challenged my parents' expectations was when I started and didn't agree with an investment they were making at the time. I said the investment won't be a good one. They believed otherwise for a moment, I thought they could be right, and I'm just being slow. The investment ultimately proved to be a poor choice.

9/2/25 You’ve been in Multicultural Literature for about 4.5 weeks. How has the class been going for you so far?

Today in class, we made a slide show of all the lesson 2 vocabulary words. We put images and sentences describing how that image represents the word. Multicultural literature has been all the more laid back since I've been in it.

8/29/25 Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

A time I did something out of the norm was when I joined wrestling. My family has never been huge on sports, and when I told them I was joining, they supported it and believed it was a unique choice of mine.

8/28/25 Judith Ortiz Cofer says, “The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

A part of my culture that follows me everywhere I go is being Mexican. I can go to the most lonely place on earth, and I would still know Spanish. and my traditions as my memories.

8/26/25 Write about an experience when someone assumed something about you because of a stereotype. What was the situation, and what did you do?

One time I was stereotyped was when I was young in downtown. A homeless man started yelling at me and my family to go back to Mexico because we were stealing all the jobs. We handled the situation well and ignored his words, and carried on with our days.

8/25/25 Describe something you will never fully understand.

Something I will never fully understand is the meaning of life. Every person on earth doesn't understand that concept either. I don't know, or I hope there is a concept to a meaning of life, or else we are just floating around meaninglessly.

8/22/25 Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Something I wish I had more of is my childhood. Your childhood years are the most precious times of one's life and the shortest period of people's lives. I wish I had more years to enjoy it. even a day.

8/20/25 What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

The most creative work I have ever created was when I went to Mexico in the 3rd grade. I created a pot from scratch. I gave it its shape and form.  After it had its form, i painted it a Mexican theme pot. I still have that pot I made, and I still use it.
